At this point, I believe we can truly say that Judd Apatow can do no wrong. After the unfortunate ratings failures of his excellent TV series', Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared, he proceeded to reinvigorate the R-rated comedy flick with The 40 Year Old Virgin, and Knocked Up. It also seems like everything he touches now turns to gold, the likes of which include Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and Superbad. So who better to act as Adam Sandler's comedic muse after nearly a decade of bad comedies and dramatic roles?
Variety is reporting that Sandler is signed on for Apatow's next directorial project, which he's also writing. Nothing is known about the project yet, but we do know two other Apatow regulars, his wife Leslie Mann and Seth Rogen, are also signed up for the project.
This wouldn't be the first time Sandler appeared in an Apatow project; he also showed up in one of my favorite episodes of Undeclared playing himself opposite a star-struck Seth Rogen. Sandler and Apatow also worked together on one of his comedy CDs, What the Hell Happened to Me--a title which seems all the more fitting today.
Given their familiarity, what took Sandler so long to collaborate with Apatow? Were Click, The Longest Yard, and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry really worth it?
Look out for more on Adam Sandler's comedic redemption whenever we get more word on this mystery project.
