As it turns out, Film School Rejects' exclusive test photo showing Thomas Jane as '70s gun-slinging anti-hero Jonah Hex isn't officially associated with the film at all, which was confirmed by the upcoming DC film's co-writer and director Mark Neveldine (alongside Brian Taylor, both of Crank fame) courtesy of a phone call to Shock Till You Drop.
Now, word comes from FSR that the revealed image was actually a personal creation by Thomas Jane, and this is coming from Jane himself. Here's the full quote...
"Yeah, the pic is real all right – my pal Akiva Goldsman told me about the project and I fell in love with the idea right away. Being a huge fan of all things Hex – I just couldn’t help myself. I called up my buddy Chris Nelson and we spent a Saturday afternoon working up some make-up for this impromptu shoot and I fired a few pics off to Warners. How do people get a hold of this shit? It’s a little embarrassing seeing my fanboy enthusiasm spilled all over the web, but great scripts don’t come around too often, especially for characters I love."
If you were ever in need of even more reason to respect and admire the badass mofo that is Thomas Jane, this is it. While some actors just pick and choose whatever parts are offered to them, Jane goes out of his way to get the geek-tastic parts he desperately wants by spending his Saturday dressing up like a horribly scarred cowboy. What a cool dude.
